The facility came to life through a partnership between the City of Windsor and title sponsor WFCU Credit Union, and its construction was a joint effort between Ellis-Don and the former D'Angelis Construction (now the Fortis Group).
For the last decade - except for an extended break during the COVID pandemic - Adventure Bay has been serving our customers from Windsor-Essex and around the globe and enjoying rave reviews year after year.
What's in a name?
We asked: you answered!
Before we could open the park all those years ago, we needed a name, and we turned to the community for inspiration. Through a public contest, Adventure Bay Family Water Park was chosen as the winner from our friend Annika Konopaski (who was five years old at the time), as it captured the spirit of family fun at a tropical water park - a great spot for a vacation or a staycation, where it's “always summer.”
A year after the park was opened, we decided we needed a cheerleader and a champion, and that's how our beloved mascot Youcan the Toucan was born. We once again made it a community effort with a “name the mascot contest,” and Kamilla Merrow captured the spirit of the toucan and chose Youcan because “Youcan swims, You can slides, Youcan floats, Youcan has fun, and you can too!”
Adventure Bay has achieved remarkable recognition over the years.
In 2015, we were honoured with a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence and received two prestigious Wave Review Awards from the World Water Park Association for Best Billboard and Best Website in the 100,000 to 250,000 attendance category. The park also was featured in 2015 in World Waterpark Magazine.
For five consecutive years, Adventure Bay was recognized by TripAdvisor with yearly Certificates of Excellence, which ultimately led to acknowledgement in their Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame. This recognition is particularly meaningful to us, as it reflects the outstanding relationship we have with our valued customers.
In addition to the accolades from TripAdvisor, Adventure Bay has received a rating of 4.6 stars out of 5 on Facebook.
After the banner year of 2015, we were delighted again when Adventure Bay won the award for Best Brochure in the 2017 Wave Review Awards and the 2023 award for Best Radio Commercial, both in the 100,000 to 250,000 attendance category. We have always been thrilled to be recognized by our peers in the industry.
Adventure Bay has also been nominated in Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI)'s Best of Windsor-Essex Awards for Best Family Friendly Attraction in 2019, 2020, and 2023! We won the award for Best Water Activity in 2016 too. TWEPI works tirelessly to promote our region, and being recognized by our community through TWEPI's popular campaign is always a great honour.
